Some biographical information, jobs, outreach, and more.
I am originally from Terrassa, a city near Barcelona, Spain. I lived in Terrassa through all my education, and I attended the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona for my undergrad studies, and then joined the High-Energy Physics Institute (IFAE) for my masters and PhD, under the supervision of Professor Ramon Miquel. That institute is part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology.
After my PhD, in 2017, I moved to the city of Philadelphia (USA), to join the University of Pennsylvania, and work with Professor Gary M. Bernstein. I lived in West Philadelphia with my family for five years. In the fall of 2022 I joined the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC), in Barcelona (Spain), with a Junior Leader Fellowship from the laCaixa Foundation. At the beginning of 2023, I became a Ramón y Cajal fellow and lecturer at the Department of Physics of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Outreach
I think outreach and science communication consititute a final goal of the research process, and hence they are not a separate, optional task that adds to the duties of a scientist. Also, scientific outreach provides a privileged way of stimulating and attracting curious and talented young students at an early stage of their lives, who will constitute the future generations of scientists, and to raise public awareness towards the importance and value of science and facts in our society.
Even more importantly, outreach provides scientists with a voice to speak up for equity, inclusion and justice in the sciences and society, and make an impact. For all these reasons, I am always happy to participate in outreach events. If you are interested, please feel free to contact me at carles.sanchez.alonso@gmail.com!
Some events I participated in:
- Tutorial on Monte-Carlo Markov Chains, University of Pennsylvania
- Measuring the Hubble Constant, Crazy about Science high-school program, Barcelona
- Recording of a Barcelona TV video with high-school students: Maps of dark matter
- Saturday Physics program, 1-hour lecture on Cosmology, Barcelona (link to recording, in catalan)
- Lecture on Cosmology at Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC)
- Cosmology seminar at the Astronomical Association of Sant Cugat, Barcelona
